Laity for Life
Inaugurates Innovative Pro-Life Approach
"Masses and Voices for Life "
The announcement by a new organization - Laity for
Life - of its two innovative goals should be welcome news for
all who have labored in the pro-life movement.
Covering the Country with Masses and Voices for
Life is the theme of its Mission Statement:
· To provide more spiritual and moral support
for pro-life activists, beginning with individuals arranging for
Masses in parishes across the United States for Laity for Life
and all those involved in the pro-life movement.
· To train Catholics and other laypeople of faith, particularly
the young, to be articulate, persuasive pro-life advocates.
In announcing the goals of Laity for Life, its Chairman,
Kathleen Sullivan, pointed out that there are 19,000 parishes
in 37 Archdioceses and 168 Dioceses around the U.S. "If each
parish had a Mass a month, that would be 228,000 Masses a year
for the success of the goals of Laity for Life. If each parish
had a Mass a week, it would amount to 988,000 Masses," Mrs.
Sullivan said. "Imagine the grace of all those Masses!"
Patricia Bucalo, Laity for Life's President, explained
the importance of its second principal goal: "In providing
pro-life apologetics and speaker training, especially to enthusiastic
young people in their teens and early twenties, we'll be empowering
them to influence their peers and inspire just about everyone
else who hears them. Imagine the impact of all those voices!"
